Inexperience & Laziness Kills Teenagers Seeking a High
« on: January 29, 2016, 08:51:10 PM »

I say this as a former teenager, who did a LOT of stupid shit that almost killed me:

Teens in Tennessee die from drinking Mountain Dew & Methyl Alcohol (Methanol), because, hey, its ALCOHOL!!

http://www.cnn.com/2016/01/27/health/tennessee-teenagers-die-dewshine/

Now, many years ago, like before the Internet, but after encyclopedias & dictionaries, people--usually the illiterate, the uneducated & the desperate--would die or go blind from drinking methanol, or wood alcohol.

What makes these deaths all the more tragic is that the internet is ubiquitous nowadays and even a cursory search on Gugel would indicate that the consumption of methyl alcohol will cause severe nerve & brain damage--and likely death.

A slightly more-in depth search would reveal that enzymes in the body that convert ETHANOL (Ethyl Alcohol) to a narcotic Acetaldehyde, will convert METHANOL to FORMALDEHYDE, as in embalming fluid.

Some will say their deaths will strengthen the gene pool, ala Darwin; others might say that their deaths will educate some of their peers and maybe will save OTHER teenagers' lives.

Before you mess with ANY chemical, it may be worth it to do a little research on the matter.  No longer is a trip to the library needed; not only will the internet give you a decent idea about said chemical, it will likely offer you several first-hand stories about other people's experience with that chemical.

Sorry for the families.

Oh, quick! We need to ban windshield washer  fluid. think of the children!

idiots.

Methanol will get you drunk, though. I hear it's a great buzz right before you  go completely blind.

This story makes me sick. I did some stupid shit to get high, as a teen, and well into my 40's. So much for DARE and the prohibition of safer drugs. Sucks for the families.

Pete hasn't shown up yet. I'm sure when he does he'll bring not only his bottle to drink, but some spare too.

This had nothing to do with inexperience and laziness; and everything to do with Darwin kicking some motherfuckers out 'da genepool.

Simple as that.

If you can't read the sign that says "POISON MOTHERFUCKER, don't EVEN think about it;" then your rent suddenly just got a whole lot cheaper.

Hate to seem heartless, but c'mon, it's fucking METHANOL.

Chlorobutanol, t-butanol, ethchlorvynol, shit, even ethanol are some alcohols with intoxicating effects, which can be taken without serious risk to life.

What gets me is that these kids thought doing this would be a better idea than asking somebody outside 7-11 to buy them some brewskis.

Ethchlorvynol is an alcohol too. Aaaaand SUPER FUN! (Placidyl, was C-IV, taken off the market in the US in 1997). Wish I could make some of that shit in my kitchen.

The irony ..

Are you folks seriously suggesting that they Google it first to learn about the side effects up to and including death ...?

I don't know ..of course it's obvious they do that but don't folks say the same thing about us?
Darwinism thinning out the morons when one of us dies ..or the classic didn't they read the literature on heroin like the rest of us ?

I agree ..it's sad and a waste and a little knowledge could've gone a long way but damn hearing you all repeat these same tired lines was a bit surprising..

If you're willing to drink methanol to get "fucked up"
I doubt you're willing to wait for some RCs
that might not even get to you

What RC is like alcohol?

I agree ..it's sad and a waste and a little knowledge could've gone a long way but damn hearing you all repeat these same tired lines was a bit surprising..

I'm not sure what you expected. When Jenkem was all the rage, did you piss and shit in a gatorade bottle just longing for the minute when you could chug that shit down?

I didn't.

When people told you that smoking banana peels would get you ripped, did you run out and smoke banana peels?

How about when you read mushrooms got you high, did you start eating mushrooms until you got high?

Probably not, huh?

I could come up with lots of reasons why these kids shoulda damned well knew better than to drink fucking methanol - reason #1 being THE WARNING on the bottle that says "THIS COULD KILL YOU."

I have done A FUCK TON of drugs in my life, from huffing paint to huffing cleaners and solvents to drinking and smoking all kinds of dumbass shit, and in dumbass combinations, and by all "rights" I probably shouldn't be here today, considering, but one thing I didn't ever do, was drink fucking methanol.

Shit I thought kids came out da womb in TN knowin' 'bout "heads n tails." - Ain't that shit written in the Bible somewhere?? Maybe it outta be..

Don't take this the wrong way Clinton - it's not that I don't like you cos I do, I've never seen you be anything more that totally civil to anyone else around here; and in this case: I feel bad for the families of the kids, but fucking methanol?? Really? What's next, bleach? Lye?

Most of us carry around access to more information in our pockets these days than people 20-30 years ago could access from an encyclopedia with 4 hours in a library. There's really not much excuse.

RIP
