I thought this was funny. I just had a visit from my friend from Holland. She does not use, or even drink. She likes to grow flowers, especially Orchids. Since it is legal there, she grows some weed "Because it is beautiful". "When they mature . . . they get very stinky". When that happens she cuts off the stinky parts, (wait for it) AND THROWS THEM AWAY !

Yep, tosses them because they stink up the house. Which is reasonable in her situation. But still good for a laugh / irony.
