christ thats insane. and I thought new york was bad.

be prepared to see news reports about people being busted smuggling/selling cigarettes. shit, at that price part of me even considers it. a pack of marlboro reds is less than 5 dollars here.

does AUS have anything like the reservations for natives like we do here? where the laws are different?

people get arrested all the time buying very cheap native american cigarettes on reservations where there are no taxes and then driving with a trunk full of cartons to new york because the profit margin is just too high.

the laws are based on the UK's Westminster System.

some parts are deemed as owned by the aborigines / native occupiers.

And are the Aboriginal people as fond of tobacco as the Native Americans are? Shit, they invented smoking tobacco! Thanks be to God! (and the Indians)...

So I guess you'd get a big "fuck off" if you asked a stranger if he had an extra cigarette on him out on the street, like I do with some frequency. Most of the time (around here) you'll get one for free, or at least offer them 50 cents for one - that's the going rate. I've bummed so many smokes off strangers that I have to give them out to whoever asks me at the bus stop, out front of the grocery store, at bars, et cetera.

But in DC or Maryland, not so much. You can still offer to buy one from them for 50 cents, maybe a dollar, but two bucks a smoke? Fuck that noise.

they only just banned tobacco in prisons.

a pouch of tobacco retails on the black market at $500.

crazy but good for the inmate's health.

I commend them. prisoners ultimately benefit.

I figured it would be fairly high. It's been a case for almost always that an hour of minimum wage work, almost worldwide, would buy a pack of smokes, a gallon of gas, a movie pass or a fast food meal. It's a metric that hasn't changed radically over the years. Some places are more, some are less, mileage varies
