Writing off MMT on your income taxes?
« on: December 22, 2018, 12:08:25 AM »
Okay, so you know how you can deduct or write off (or whatever the phrase is) medical expenses if it's over a certain percentage of your income. Quick google search says "The IRS allows you to deduct qualified medical expenses that exceed 7.5% of your adjusted gross income for 2017 and 2018".

So my question to you all is: Has anybody ever deducted methadone clinic charges for tax purposes? I pay $25 a day for me and my spouse so if it's a "qualified medical expense", I definitely will meet the 7.5% of my income threshold that you have to meet for the year, especially since I only worked 6 months this year. Does anybody know if MMT qualifies as a medical expense for the IRS? If so, I should get back a pretty large tax refund because I can also deduct pharmacy costs for the entire year, office visit fees, co-pays when I eventually got insurance, etc..

Does anybody know alot about filing your income taxes? If so, what exactly does it mean to deduct qualified medical expenses that exceed 7.5% of my adjusted gross income? Do I get to reduce my taxable income by the amount of my medical expenses or how does that work?
