US to pull all 1cc 1/2 inch syringes from market!
« on: February 11, 2018, 05:58:19 AM »
I just came from Wal-Mart and was told all 1/2 inch needles are being discontinued in the 1cc size. Furthermore, only 30 gauge and higher will be sold. I was able to get the last box of BD syringes in 1/2 inch but only in 1/2 cc, 30 gauge. I called all other pharmacies in area and told the same thing.  Only short needles from now on.  Stock up if you can find them. I am heading home to check all internet suppliers. I hope I am wrong but I have a bad feeling that the day of good syringes are soon to be over.

I always bought mine from a vet supply store 26 g 3 ml barrels but I know there isn’t any reason to go that big for anything besides morphine. And I guess methadone but then You would need a 10 ml barrel. I can’t imagine that they won’t sell them online still though.

Wow that's pretty crazy.  Idk if its considered sourcing but I know of a very reliable overseas site that ships to the us.  The only annoying part is that they charge around 20 pounds or euros, can't remember which per shipment, which is kind of a lot, but the the supplies are super cheap, like $8-9 per box of 100 pins and they have all sorts of filters and fixing cups and good stuff.  Maybe I shouldn't post it here just in case but if it's allowed and you aren't already aware feel free to message me

Wow that's a big change. I always used the 30 gauge diabetic needles (if I could find them) when I used needles but darn. This could is a big change.

I wonder what the reason is for the ban..

I wish I wasn't limited to using my phone for web access, but I'm going to have to do some research.

I wonder if it's a legit ban, or just some spin move the pharmacists in your area came up with at their weekly bridge club.

So people still play bridge these days?

I wonder too if its a real ban nationwide or just a new walmart policy that they are trying to make sound important by saying its a ban. My local mom and pop pharmacy has them still, but they are the place that is really ok with people buying needles and don't start any hassles. Hence why id buy them there.

This supposed ban is going to take away long points of all gauges? Im going to have to look into it. Does the government really not have anything better to do right now than antagonize junkies? It seems like it. Especially cause i heard another rumor they're going to make loperamide sold behind the counter and limit how much you can buy, like a pack of 12 at a time.

Guess we're still going to be able to order needles from the internet, which is ok for me, but so many people won't have access to that option. Horrible harm reduction practice, thats for sure, making people use too short of needles and have to stick themselves a million times to get it.

After more research I should have made the topic a question.  Don't think this is a government ban just Wal-Mart and a few others. Other places in town still have 1/2 inch in 29 & 30 gauge.  Looks like the problem stems from a recommendation from ADA (American Diabetes Association) that 1/2 inch syringes are too long for subcutaneous insulin injections. Not sure if anyone else has seen changes in availability.

Just refilled my B12 script with 3ml 21 gauge 1.5 inch needles at CVS. We all know how obnoxiously hard ass they are ( not sure if this size is something that can be used for other than B12, but thought I'd throw it out there in case it helps) with anything even remotely drug related. I switched all of my pm meds to a local mom and pop pharm as they are so much nicer and easier to deal with when it comes to pain meds. They are even more than happy to order my preferred generic oxy rather than give me a hard time and a lecture about how all generics are identical which is a load of crap
Anyhoo, just throwing it out there for what it's worth.

I will ask my needle exchange back in WI about this. I'll give her a call today and report back and let you know if any word has been passed down through life point.
