He is suicidal and I'm desperate to pull him out of it.

Surely you can understand that.

I know, I know ... what was I thinking ?

I just wanted him to get pulled out of his depression and I wrote this when he was adamant that he wanted to die but since then, the nurses said that by not eating and refusing treatment meant a shit load of misery and suffering - he soon complied.

he is so weak, just skin and bones but I got him to eat everything  (pureed food because his dentures were giving him grief) even the meal replacement vitamin drinks.

I found a walker and made him do 2 laps of the ward, once after breakfast then again after lunch.

he did quite well.

no drugs. I was getting desperate and good old exercise and nutrition did the trick.

(not even 2.5 mgs ? surely that can't hurt) but I can't accurately dose him that low anyway).

This is the best thing to take away from this conversation IMHO. I know it's something I need to keep in mind for myself anyway.

Smalls is right.  That plus some love and support from family and friends is irreplaceable and essential.  I would try that before I dosed him with some meth.

Let everyone know he is on the last lap, and tell them they need to get their asses down there to love and support him.  Spending time with loved ones might give him some encouragement that he so desperately needs right now.

I can't imagine being all speedy with someild hallucinations in the fucking hospital.  Hell no.  Some downers on the other hand... I would be gobbling those like pez.

Sorry Chipper, I really can't say I understand wanting to slip an elderly person (or anyone for that matter), speed.

If I caught you trying to do that to me, I'd have your head on a plate. :)

Sick people like to sleep, and sleep is a VERY GOOD thing, contrary to many un-informed opinions..

A little exercise was I think a much better idea.

Man, do I relate to this situation.  Only it's my spouse, not my dad (my dad is totally anti-drug, and you can't even have a rational convo with him on the subject.

My spouse is disabled and in a lot of pain every day.  She knows about all my shit....the poppy tea, the drugs, the works and is not happy about it, but doesn't push the issue because I am basically a fully functional addict and I have convinced her that drug legalization is our constitutional right and that drug laws have caused a lot of harm.  She takes tramadol and has a small stash of morphine sulfate for emergencies, but she doesn't touch the stuff.  She'll also do mary jane, when it comes her way, either via edibles or hemp oil.

So, she is okay with marijuana and I've even ordered her tramadol online but, she won't take anything else I offer, even half a 10mg valium for her severe muscle pain.

It's so goddam frustrating, because I know I could make her feel better with the stash I have, but it would be an EXTREME violation of her trust if I ever spiked her cocktail or did something like that without her consent.  So, it's not an option here and I think the same principal should apply in the OP's situation.

Can you imagine how angry your dad would be if he somehow found out?  You would lose his trust forever.

I didn't plan to slip him anything without his consent.

He is really giving us a hard time by demanding that we take him home but mom can't even help him because she just had a hip replacement.

I have decided that it's a bad idea and will refrain from looking for an unprescribed chemical solution.

I know that you guys mean well and I appreciate all your replies.

I wanted to share something I thought hilarious. My wife is a home care aid, and the other day she walked in a her client who's in his 80's, shooting up meth. I was like no fucking way. I guess it's a regular thing he does. But he's not tweaked out and picking at the carpets. So maybe older minds react differently to Meth then younger ones. I have no idea just wanted to share.

80 fucking years old, shooting up dope. Never in my wildest dreams....

I don't think that it's that older minds react differently but rather that the old guy she saw someone who has a huge tolerance.

But I agree, that's amazing and he must be one of a tiny minority still shooting at 80.
