LVI checkpoint 2 — 2026-10-12

Follows LVI_checkpoint.md (written earlier the same day, left unchanged). Status change: the abort recorded in checkpoint 1 is superseded. The operator reopened the project and calls it stable.

Scope: [lvi] BBCode mod (LVIBBC.php v1.0.1), SMF 2.0.19 test forum at /smf20, VLC 3.0.24 on the operator's Windows PC. Live forum not touched.

1. Problem & Resolution

What happened since checkpoint 1

Item Detail
Result Operator: it worked with a fresh post. Project reopened and stable.
What was not reported Which file types played in that post, and whether the 3GP played. Nothing here confirms the 3GP.
Why the fresh post worked Not established. One candidate from the module's own header: SMF caches a parsed post body, and an attachment added to an already-cached post may not show until the cache is cleared. That is unverified as the cause here.

Status of the open items from checkpoint 1

Open item Status
3GP (attach=94) would not play from the forum URL Unresolved. The no-Content-Length / index-at-end hypothesis is still unproven. A fresh post working does not confirm or reject it.
The HTTP 404 in VLC's log Was for /smf20/Silly2.3gp, a path that does not exist. Not evidence about the hypothesis.
Quiet audio via the .m3u route Unexplained. VLC's own volume read 243/256.
Guest permission requirement Unchanged. VLC fetches as a guest, so the board must allow Guests View attachments.

New item: toolbar icon

Waiting on the operator

  1. lvi.gif (his own).
  2. The installed LVI package zip.
  3. One existing icon from images/bbc/, so size and format can be matched. This is optional if his icon is already 23×22.

2. Risk Analysis

State left behind (unchanged from checkpoint 1)

New

Still never tested

3. Code Change

Release card: not applicable until a package is delivered.

Next step

On receipt of lvi.gif and the package zip: add the file to package-info.xml and the uninstall, bump the package version, add the manual version-history entry, run xmllint --noout on the XML, build the zip with a dotted never-reused version number, and send it with a release card.
