graphics can been seen in http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1129. it includes a hide option, also.

i want to install it after the weekly Cloud backup (every Tuesday, 20:00-22:00), just in case.

the system will go into Maintenance Mode (Admin > Configuration > Server Settings) as it will take time to both install and recalculate all the members Rep. then adjust Reputation variables.

please vote within 14-30 hours from now (it's currently 4:15 AM Tuesday in Sydney).

I don't mind the upgrade.  From what I can tell, it'll be like Opiophile's old system, and will be able to be customized.

1.  The rep will clearly be for posts / threads.
2.  Members can see who sent the rep.
3.  Members can leave a message with rep.
4.  Rep will be given according to the sender's rep power (the more rep you have, the more rep you send).
5.  Members can turn off their own rep system if they wish.

Negative / Disagree being disabled is a good thing IMO.

and moderators cannot alter rep. points.

the system only displays your power points as a number thats more what you are used to.

That's a big plus.  It will quiet some people.  I vote that only you, Nick, and Candy be able to change points / power.

we won't be changing them either - they're deemed personal and to belong to the members.

however, the same algorithm will be applied to ALL rep. to make it compatible with the new system.

Chipper, I'm trying to understand this, sorry if I'm not reading it right. I first read the newest poll as "opiophile's system" meaning: no negative rep & the *option* to leave a message anonymous or PM.  I usually like to let folks know when I give rep/karma etc, but I can also see instances where I'd want it to just be a nice "surprise".  I don't think as a member, I should be required to alert someone when I applaud them--this is just my opinion.

Also, if I decide to "turn my rep off", I wouldn't expect I should still be allowed to participate; I'd just PM whoever's post I liked to tell that member. Just my feeling based on what you said in the original poll--i.e.,"fair's fair".

If the newest system *IS* this way already, my apologies-if not, would you please explain where it is and *isn't* like the 'phile one?  Thanks much :)

I know you guys won't change it.  I just meant that only you three should be able to change them.  I think everyone will trust you three to do the honorable thing.

@Sand and Water.  I didn't mean to imply that people must leave a message, just that they can if they want to.  I think that's how it will be, if I understand it correctly.

Since there's no negative, I really don't see the problem in people giving positive rep, even if they choose not to participate.  I understand why not giving negative if you yourself aren't receiving negative is fair.  If you're not willing to receive it, you shouldn't be able to give it.

But for positive, it's, well, positive.  It's like people who aren't comfortable receiving gifts themselves will still get other people gifts.  I don't see anything wrong with that.

So, no option to give rep anonymously and if I choose to "hide/turn off", I can still make comments/participate?

ETA: Nark-- my questions to Chipoer aren't about what you did. We're cool.  I'm just trying to get a clear understanding. I've already said if i choose to "hide" it etc, I'd just send a PM. I also like the option like the Phile had of choosing to be anonymous if I want.  Sort of like when ai vote; if I don't want to share who I voted for, I don't. No biggie.  Again, just my opinion.

I always thanked anybody for rep.

no anonymous repping - malicious messages in the rep. comment area are another point of abuse so that's why you need to see who repped you and why.

That's very true, and a good point.  I know I had a couple sarcastic rep comments from anonymous people feigning concern when in reality they were just trying to be asses.

I didn't like how people couldn't see who repped them on Opiophile.  You had to pay for that privilege, er, I mean right.

I always signed my rep messages.  "message message message  -  Narkotikon"

I wasn't aware folks did that. Shame on them. I can see now why you wanting it this way is sensible.

you get a good view of human nature in this role.

I hate to censor but I must put the member's happiness first.

It's an odd role but so far, I think most have little to no gripes.
